Arizona State men’s basketball coach Herb Sendek and women’s head coach Charli Turner Thorne both received contract extensions on Monday according to a person close to the team. Sendek, the former N.C. State head coach, led the Sun Devils to their first NCAA Tournament berth since 2009 and has had them steadily improving since he took over in 2006. The deal will allow Sendek to stay with the program through the 2018-1019 season.
On the other hand, Turner Thorne has seen steady success throughout her years at the school guiding the women’s counterpart to the NCAA second round in 2013-14. Turner Thorne is also the winningest women’s coach since the program’s inception and will be signed through the 2017-18 season.
The two contract extensions provide potential recruits with solidarity and consistency when looking for a potential suitor. With Sendek and Turner Thorne at the helm, ASU hopes to establish themselves as the top team in the PAC 12 conference.
