Roselle Catholic (NJ) product Chris Silva announced earlier today that he will play college basketball at the University of South Carolina. The 6/9″ power forward is the first member of the Gamecocks’ recruiting class of 2015.
Silva is an interesting prospect, having played organized basketball for just over three years. He has seen significant growth from his sophomore to junior season but has frayed away from the radar of many of the top-tier programs. Providence and Seton Hall were the only other schools to offer Silva, who took visits to both. He took his final visit to Columbia last weekend to watch the Gamecocks host Georgia and attend other university activities.
When he arrives in Columbia next fall, he will be the lone underclassmen in the front court, and will have ample opportunity to learn and develop before becoming a contributor.
