DeShaun Watson Named Clemson Quarterback

Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney announced Sunday that true freshman DeShaun Watson will start for the team as they square off against conference rival North Carolina.  Watson came on in relief for senior quarterback Andrew Stoudt in each of the first three games, displaying great potential for the Tigers.  After sending a poor pass deep into Seminoles territory, Stoudt was benched in favor of Watson about mid-way through the first quarter and he played the rest of the contest.

It appeared to many it was only a matter of time before Watson was named the starting quarterback, especially after Saturday’s 23-17 overtime loss to top ranked Florida State.  Watson completed 19 of 28 passes for 266 yards and gave Swinney and the Tigers the chance to upset the Winston-less Seminoles.  Watson will get his first real taste of ACC play Saturday against North Carolina.
