Head coach Bobby Petrino and the Louisville Cardinals football program will turn to true freshman quarterback Reggie Bonnafon for tomorrow’s game against Wake Forest.
Will Gardner, the usual starter, injured his knee during last weekend’s victory over FIU and has not been cleared to play this weekend. This will leave the Cardinals fate in the hands of a true freshman, dual threat quarterback with only limited playing experience- having mop up duty against Virginia and Murray State.
Coming out of high school, Bonnafon, a Louisville native, was a three-star recruit ranked the 40th quarterback in the nation while being rated second in the state of Kentucky.
Still, the Cardinals are 21.5 point favorites as they look to go 4-1, 2-1 in ACC play in Bonnafon’s first real taste of game action.
“Since the day he got here, he’s been very mature, a quick learner, very competitive,” Petrino said, as reported by the Courier-Journal. “Every time we’ve put him into the game, he’s executed well. He has a little bit of different flavor with the fact that he’s very athletic and he can run. It’ll be interesting to see how it all goes.”
