Virginia Tech freshman running back Shai McKenzie will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a torn ACL late in the team’s 35-17 win over Eastern Michigan. The severity of the injury may not be known to most, but it is actually the second time McKenzie has torn the ACL in that right knee. McKenzie has been extremely productive for the Hokies, rushing for 85 yards against Eastern Michigan to go along with 263 yards and three touchdowns during his rookie campaign.
The three star recruit took to Twitter to confirm the unfortunate news.
“I am done for the season with another ACL injury. I trust that god will not let me down #HokieNation #Salute,” McKenzie’s tweet read.
Marshawn Williams is expected to take most of McKenzie’s carries after rushing for 119 yards on Saturday. The loss of McKenzie could extend beyond this year and puts his future in serious danger.
With a 3-2 record, Virginia Tech will continue to trudge forward in their ACC schedule squaring off against North Carolina next weekend in Chapel Hill.
