This Friday, Louisville heads into Syracuse to take on the Orange. There’s no doubt this will be a high intensity matchup as both schools have a long history of high level competition, and Syracuse has planned an “Orange-Out” for the game.
The announcement came earlier today from head coach Bobby Petrino. Petrino discussed in a teleconference Wednesday that Will Gardner, who re-injured his left knee two weeks ago against FIU, has been observed by the coaching and training staffs and will be available in “emergency situations” Friday night.
But the starting job, at least for the moment, belongs to true freshman Reggie Bonnafon.
Cardinal fans are waiting for a breakout moment from any of their quarterbacks. Last week, in his first start in a 20-10 win against Wake Forest, Bonnafon was 16-32 for 206 yards. He threw no touchdowns, but more importantly he threw no interceptions. Not quite the statistics you want to see if you’re Bobby Petrino or if you’re a UofL fan, but you’ve got to be excited by Bonnafon’s running capabilities. Last week, he added 46 yards on the ground. Compare that to Gardner’s -72 on the season, and you’ll be a tad more optimistic about Reggie’s chances.
