Florida’s Latroy Pittman Released After Scary Hit

Ben Hill Griffin Stadium was quiet.  A sold out crowd of 50,000 was suddenly sitting on the edge of their seats for a different reason: an injured player.  Forget the 27-27 tied score against SEC rival LSU, there was a far greater battle taking place in The Swamp, Latroy Pittman fighting for mobility as he was carted off of the field.  Players swarmed him as he was lifted into the cart giving pats on the chest and words of encouragement until finally the customary thumps up had the entire crowd on their feet.

Pittman, a junior wide receiver, was injured on Florida’s final play when quarterback Jeff Driskel threw a slant pass to Pittman before he met an LSU defender.  The game had been physical all night long and the injury to Pittman was a rude awakening to the physicality of football.  Pittman laid immobile on the grass for an extended period of time and had fans holding their breath.

Positive news leaked from the team, affirming that Pittman was released from the hospital and “everything checked out.”  Still, It remains unclear whether or not there were further injuries sustained during the collision, but Gator nation is very pleased with the latest news.

Through seven games, Pittman had not been a key contributor, catching seven passes for 35 yards.

The Gators suffered their second loss of the young season against LSU when kicker Colby Delahoussaye nailed a 50-yard, game winning field goal as time expired. Next week they host the Missouri Tigers, who will be reeling from their 34-0 shutout at the hands of Georgia.
