RB Brian Kimbrow Dismissed From Vanderbilt Program

The Vanderbilt Commodores and head coach Derek Mason have made a final decision on running back Brian Kimbrow.  The school suspended Kimbrow indefinitely back in September for conduct detrimental to the team, and now Vanderbilt has decided to dismiss the sophomore from the program. When the original news broke, it appeared unlikely Kimbrow would return to the program, so the dismissal is not overly surprising to most Commodore fans.

“No one player is bigger than the team. It’s always about team,” Mason said on September 22.

Kimbrow’s future is as unclear as ever. It remains to be seen if he’ll decide to use his redshirt year as part of a transfer, or attempt to immediately contribute at a new program.  Despite having only one carry all season, Kimbrow will more than likely lose this year of eligibility due to NCAA regulations.

Over the course of his career, Kimbrow has rushed the ball 148 times for a total of 748 yards and six touchdowns. In high school, he was rated as a four-star recruit and could be a major pick up for a division one program.

Mason and the Commodores have struggled to a 2-5 record, barely escaping with tight wins over Massachusetts and Charleston Southern, respectively.  Things don’t get much easier for the ‘Dores, as Vanderbilt makes the trip to Missouri for an always tough matchup with the Tigers.
