Treon Harris Named Florida’s Starting QB

After the Florida Gators’ debacle last weekend against Missouri, head coach Will Muschamp has decided to start true freshman quarterback Treon Harris against the Georgia Bulldogs on Nov. 1st.

“[Harris] is getting all the reps right now,” Muschamp stated, “and Jeff is certainly going to have a role in that game.”

Junior quarterback Jeff Driskel has endured much-deserved criticism this season. He has thrown for 928 yards, six touchdowns, and ten interceptions this season.

Last weekend, both Driskel and Harris saw reps at quarterback and Harris was the better of the two.

If Harris shows he can handle the pressure of a big rivalry game, you would have to think he will be the Gators’ starter moving forward, and the Driskel-era in Gainesville would officially end.

This move proves Muschamp is certainly feeling the heat and is doing anything to save his job, although most believe this is his final season as the Gators head coach, no matter the outcome of the remaining games.

After a successful 2012 campaign where the Gators finished 11-2, the wheels fell off the following year. Florida finished 4-8 in 2013 but Muschamp was given a pass due to the insurmountable injuries the Gators had to endure.

This season, however, the Gators were believed to be one of the most improved teams in the country. That has not been the case so far.

Florida’s offense has been anemic at best, and was recently called out by former Heisman trophy winner Tim Tebow, citing a lack of leadership and identity.

The Gators’ last hope could be Harris, who has shown glimpses of his potential this season. All-in-all, it will be tough to count on a true freshman to upset one of the best teams in the country.
