The Big 12 recruiting race as of late has been nothing short of dramatic, with several moves yet to be made.
But the ugly side of recruiting reared its ugly head once again on Tuesday, when 4* dual threat quarterback/wide receiver Chad President announced that he was decommiting from Baylor.
This news came less than a week after 5* quarterback Jarrett Stidham (who had been solid on his commitment to Texas Tech since April) announced that he’d pulled his commitment from Tech, followed by a verbal to Baylor.
President has been stern that he wants to play quarterback, but with the addition of Stidham to the Bears’ 2015 class, it’s not surprising that Texas’ No. 3 ranked quarterback decided to open up recruiting again.
Despite losing 45-49 to Aledo in the 2014 UIL Texas High School Championship on Dec. 20, President has garnered the national attention of recruiting aficionados for a number of factors.
President has a solid football IQ that makes the No. 9 dual threat quarterback difficult to read for defenses. At the receiver position, he’s physical, fast, and aggressive, and his size makes him tough to cover, especially with his ability to block on the perimeter.
For now, three schools remain in the Top 3: Texas, Texas Tech, and Tulsa; but with Tech losing Stidham and Waco Midway quarterback Ben Hicks, look for the Red Raiders to ramp up efforts to get President to Lubbock and fulfill that much needed hole in its class.
Temple is also a viable option for President, as he was recruited by former Baylor offensive coordinator Phil Montgomery. Montgomery was announced as Temple’s new head football coach on Dec. 11.
Because President is listed as a wide receiver. that’s the position many expected him to play, despite throwing for 1,789-yards with 865 rushing yards, and 27 touchdowns this season for Texas’ Temple High School Wildcats. Whether it’s at quarterback, receiver, or as an immediate impact on special teams, with the right support staff to help develop and fine tune his natural talents, he’ll be a solid addition for whoever lands him.
