The Indiana Hoosiers have found a quality replacement at running back for Tevin Coleman, who declared for the NFL Draft earlier this week. IU head coach Kevin Wilson received word Thursday morning that 1,500-yard rusher Jordan Howard, a transfer from University of Alabama-Birmingham, will enroll at Indiana and start his Hoosier career in the next couple of weeks. Howard will have three seasons to fulfill two years of eligibility.
Wilson had a feeling that the Hoosiers would be without the services of Coleman in the future and had this to say about Howard’s decision to transfer to Indiana.
“Jordan instantly became our top target. What happened at UAB is unfortunate for Jordan, his teammates and everyone involved with the program, but this is a perfect match for both sides. We recruited him very, very hard and we are excited he is joining us. The sign of a good program is finding good players to replace good players, and we have done just that.”
Howard should enter the off-season as the Hoosiers number one running back. He finished seventh in the country with 1,587 yards, with an average of 132.3 yards per contest. Howard also found the end zone 13 times while being named a member of the first-team All-Conference USA. For his career, Howard has rushed for 2,468 yards and 15 scores. He was also named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team in 2013.
This is an extremely important pick up for the Hoosiers in 2015. IU gets quarterback Nate Sudfeld back and were in danger of entering camp without a number one featured back. With the addition of Howard, the Hoosiers may finally have put it all together on offense.
