SoCal made a lot of noise on National Signing Day, as the top football prospects in the country made their final decisions on what school to attend in the hopes of jumpstarting their football careers. While players from all over sussed out scholarship offers from programs miles away from their high school roots, USC snagged a pair of local boys whose talent is sure to bolster the team in the coming season.
Defensive duo Rasheem Green and John Houston, Jr. announced their commitment to USC on Wednesday, continuing the tradition of Junipero Serra High School senior making the hometown jump to University of Southern California. The teammates join Porter Gustin in a signing class of five-star defensemen promising to beef up USC’s d-corps in the upcoming season.
Green brings a school-leading repertoire to the Trojans’ first prospect class since the end of NCAA sanctions stemming from turmoil with former-Heisman winner Reggie Bush. A six-foot-four, 290-pound tackle, Green registered 47 tackles for loss and 20 sacks in his last two year at Serra before becoming an Army All-American. He had whittled his list of suitors down to Oregon, Miami and Arizona State before choosing USC.
Considered the No.1 linebacker prospect by ESPN, Houston is another signing day score for USC, tallying a career-high 147 tackles during his senior year. When asked about his decision to attend USC over other schools that have reached out to him, Houston told the LA Times: “It’s right in my backyard so it just made it perfect.”
USC is expected to have the No. 2 draft class as projected by SBNation, ranked behind Alabama.
