Two days before National Signing Day, the Louisville Cardinals revoked running back Matt Colburn’s scholarship, leaving him without a clue where and if he would be continuing his football career at the next level.
After visits to Wake Forest and Georgia Southern this past weekend, Colburn signed with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Wednesday morning.

“I’m real excited to know that I’m playing football somewhere,” Colburn said to Akilah Imani Nelson of The State. “Because a week ago, I didn’t know if I was.”
The Demon Deacons offered as soon as the Cardinals pulled its scholarship, and with the addition of Colburn to their class, Wake Forest moved up to the No. 49 signing class according to Rivals.com.
“I had learned previously about their prestige, they have a great tradition, and they just got a whole new coaching staff. With this class, history can be made, and I want to be part of that,” Colburn said to Nelson.
Colburn will get a chance to avenge against the Cardinals on Oct. 30, when Wake Forest hosts Louisville.
