Of all the characters in the NCAA hoops world that have graced us with their presence as of late, the award for “Most Likely To Never Get Boring” undisputedly goes to Matt Stainbrook.
And not just because the leading scorer could end up being your ride-share liaison during your night out on the town.
The Xavier product, whose last year of eligibility just concluded, has the charisma and comedic timing of a seasoned sports star. He added more media friendly material to our internet on Monday when photos surfaced as Stainbrook going on The Dan Patrick Show in — drumroll please — his full Xavier uniform; signature goggles and all.
His run with the Musketeers is over, yet the big guy showed up decked out to hit the court.
Per character right there.
Nate Scott of USA Today called him a “cult hero” and insisted that the NBA give him some kind of work in the upcoming season, just so we have more Stainbrook stunners. We would have to be crazy not to agree.
This March Madness was flush with big name NBA-hopefuls, and the fluffy-haired senior was no exception — particularly because he looks more like a your favorite bartender than a serious collegiate athlete.
But Stainbrook stole the spotlight from all of them early in tourney play when it was revealed that he spends his free time as an Uber driver, reportedly “to pay for grad school.”
Now, while we are in full support of the Bay Village, Ohio native continuing his education, he would certainly be missed in the basketball world. Let’s be honest though: We would love to see Stainbrook stay in the basketball family, whether he’s playing or commentating or what-have-you.
Somebody with this much pizazz already has an audience that would love to see more shenanigans from him.
Stainbrook leaves his college basketball career on a high note nonetheless, tallying a career-high 12.3 points per game and 6.9 rebounds.
