Duke Blue Devils championship bling unveiled

It hasn’t even been 24 hours since Duke won the tournament title, and they already get a glimpse of their commemorative hardware. As Fansided shared early Tuesday the Blue Devils National Championship ring has been revealed — and boy, is it shiny.

The trophy-for-your-digit from Jostens — you know, the people who manufacture everyone’s high school class rings — features an eye-catching cobalt blue “D” atop a bed of diamonds.

However, as Sports Illustrated points out, NCAA players are only allowed $415 dollars worth in championship swag, so the authenticity of the diamonds is anyone’s guess.

One side of the ring bares the name “Krzyzewski” no doubt being a symbol of this being Coach K’s fifth championship ring with the Blue Devils.

It’s also the school’s fifth ring, so why wouldn’t they slap the coaching titans name on it? Each player will have his name individually placed on the ring.

The NCAA March Madness Twitter account through the announcement and ring image up on Twitter Monday night following Duke’s 68-63 win over Wisconcin in the 2015 NCAA tournament finals. Granted it is still up for debate if the premiere ring picture got as much social media attention as the riotous fan footage from Cameron Indoor or the footage of the forlorn Wisconcin fan dressed as Teletubby.

(Or the controversial late game call that lead to Tyus Jones’s three-point shot with less than two minutes in the second half. But you all can read the Campus Sports game recap for that detailed account.)

The announcement even featured a little pop culture nod to Beyonce with the playful post: “If you win it then you better put a ring on it.”

With this being ring number five, however, Duke might have to consider bringing the thumb ring trend back into style.

There has been no mention yet of when the team will be receiving the commorative rings.
