In the midst of social media build-up and hype beyond compare — at least, that what it was like out here in the Bay Area — one of the brightest rising stars in the basketball realm chose his the first stepping stone in the path to a hoops career.
Ivan Rabb announced Monday night that he has declared the University of Califoria at Berkeley as his school of choice next year.
The 18-year-old Oakland, California native made the announcement of his choice of the Golden Bears “in front of media and friends at the Old Yeller Cafe where his mother works” the Contra Costa Times reported shortly after the announcement was made.
Rabb then took to Twitter to share his declaration with the rest of the world.
The six-foot-ten forward created quite the stir with the tension leading up to his announcement, and understandably so. He led Bishop O’Dowd to a the California open division state title and is considered the No.-5 overall prospect by Scout.com.
With a number of schools knocking at his door, Rabb narrowed down his options to Cal and this year’s Pac-12 champion Arizona. He previously told the media that he would keep his final declaration low-key before announcing late Sunday that he would be making a statement from the restaurant on Monday evening.
