Ryan Finley is Boise State front-runner for QB job

The Boise State Broncos quarterback competition now has a front-runner, following a strong performance in the spring by Ryan Finley.

Boise State coaches said they will wait until spring to name  Grant Hedrick’s successor, but Finley’s performance and comments from coaches seem to indicate he is the man to beat.

“He’s done well,” head coach Bryan Harsin said, via the Idaho Press-Tribune. “He’s put himself in a position to have the most experience out of those guys. He was the guy ready to play had Grant (Hendrick) gone down last year. He’s improved, and he’s taken advantage of that.”

Echoing the head coach’s comments, offensive coordinator Eliah Drinkwitz said he was also impressed with the signal-caller.

He’s had a good spring,”Drinkwitz noted. “This competition is open, and this competition is going to stay open until coach Harsin says it’s no longer open. But the reality is he’s had a good spring.”

Unlike the other quarterbacks who are vying for the Boise State starting job — redshirt sophomore Tommy Stuart, true freshman Brett Rypien and redshirt freshman Alex Ogle. — Finley has attempted and completed passes at the college level.

Last season, Ryan Finley threw for 161 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
