Many of you have probably never heard of Al Blades, Jr. He is currently a high school student at Fort Lauderdale’s University School of Nova South, who plays defensive back for the football team. His late father, Al Blades, was a standout safety at the University of Miami in the late ’90s.
It just so happens that the younger Blades, though still a few years away from his high school graduation, has already verbally committed to follow in his father’s footsteps and play for the Hurricanes.
I want to thank everyone and I’m letting the fans know that I am verbally committing to UM I know I will have other options as well.

While on the field in Tallahassee, Blades Jr. flashed the infamous “The U” sign at midfield, clearly stating that he was not changing his mind and staying committed to Miami.

It’s not the first time an extreme sign of loyalty (or lack thereof) to a program has been shown.
Back in 2013, North Carolina running back Elijah Hood made headlines by flushing his Alabama recruiting letter in a toilet after initially committing to Notre Dame, before de-committing and picking UNC.
Granted, Blades Jr.’s passion for Miami was nowhere near as intense, but the fact that he had the guts to do it on Florida State’s field and then tweet out a picture of the gesture seems a bit, well, much.
Either way, there’s no denying that it still makes us laugh and that this young man will be showing his clear intensity on the college field in a few years, so fans of the ‘Canes should be excited.
