Condoleezza Rice thinks four is the right size for CFP

College Football Playoff committee member Condoleezza Rice, who is the former Secretary of State, recently shared her thoughts on the current state of the system in place.

While there are some people who are hoping to see the size of the four-team College Football Playoff committee expand, Condoleezza Rice believes things are perfectly fine how they currently are.

I feel pretty strongly about four now because I thought that the rivalry weekend—that Saturday after Thanksgiving—almost felt like a play–in game,” Rice said, according to ESPN.com. “Now the Iron Bowl, Alabama has to beat Auburn. You could imagine the circumstances in another year where the Civil War, Oregonreally has to beat Oregon State. There are questions whether they will.”

Rice went on to say that “the best possible scenario” for the College Football Playoff is the current four-team format.

Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott echoed those comments.

Scott beleives the current format allows the regular season to matter, while an expanded field like the NCAA basketball tournament makes everything about the postseason.

“I think we’re all lamenting regular-season college basketball not being more popular right now, at a time when March Madness has never been more popular,” Scott said. “To me, that’s a great example of the field being so big that the regular season doesn’t matter anymore.”

Do you believe the NCAA should expand the playoff field or should it stay as is for now? Sound off in the comments section below with your thoughts.
