Former Missouri State Forward Ron Mvouika to St. John’s

St. John’s new head coach Chris Mullin received some positive news Tuesday after losing out on high school standout Brandon Sampson to the LSU Tigers on Monday.

Former Missouri State forward and France native Ron Mvouika has decided to play for St. John’s.

Mvouika had a disappointing campaign last season after suffering a back injury which kept him out for most of the season. During his junior campaign, he averaged 6.6 points per game and 3.6 rebounds per game in 2013 after spending his first two collegiate season in junior college.

He underwent back surgery in February and decided to finish his career elsewhere. According to the Springfield News Leader, Mvouika had a connection to St. John’s through one of his coaches in France who had ties to the program.

It was unknown if he would be able to get back on the court and continue to play the sport he loves.

Now, he will have that opportunity

“The fact that I can get back on the court and play, no matter where, is the biggest dream for me.”

Mvouika will be eligible to play for the Red Storm this season.
