Jameis Winston says crab legs were a ‘free hookup’

Jameis Winston is just over a week away from potentially becoming the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

As he prepares for the draft, Winston is making the rounds in the media and recently appeared on ESPN’s “Draft Academy” with Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh and quarterbacks coach Jedd Fisch.

When Harbaugh pressed Winston to explain the now infamous crab leg incident, Winston said that he didn’t steal the crab legs and that instead he was given to them for free by an employee of the Publix.

“How am I supposed to handle, like, if I just got it for free,” Winston told Harbaugh. “Do I just say I messed up?

“A week before is my buddy’s birthday, and we had got a cake and met a dude that [worked] inside Publix and he said ‘hey, anytime you come in here, I got you.’ So that day, we just walked out and he hooked us up with that [the birthday cake].

“And [then] when I came in to get crab legs, I did the same thing and he just gave them to me and I walked out.  And someone from inside the store had told the security that I didn’t pay for ’em and that’s how the whole thing started.”

Harbaugh’s advice for Winston moving forward is to simply say, “I f****d up.”

Well, that is just one of the many issues Winston will have to explain to NFL teams, so let’s hope he can put together better explanations than Harbaugh’s suggestion when he is pressed for an answer.
