Give the Minnesota Golden Gophers points for tapping into everyone’s inner vintage video game nerd when promoting next season’s home opener.
Surely, Minnesota was already excited when the Big Ten announced the 2015 primetime schedule and slated the Gophers tilt with TCU for ESPN. They put that excitement to creative use with a Twitter announcement inspired 1980s arcade legend Frogger.

No, not the newly-revamped Frogger that you can play online. We’re talking about the pixelated, neon-colored old school wonder that was nestled in the back of the arcade when we were kids because it was a #throwback back when the “hashtag” was still called the “pound sign.”
College Spun points out that Minnesota has hit a creative stride with marketing their primetime games, but we are admittedly most taken with the clever promo for their game against the Horned Frogs.
(Granted, the whole point of the game was for the frog to not become roadkill, but we won’t let a need to revamp the whole game get in the way of a good football game promotion.)
Minnesota’s opener versus TCU is scheduled for 5pm Eastern time on September 3. It is one of two primetime games that the Gophers will host–the other homer being against Michigan on Halloween night.
