With a future trademarked nickname like “Famous Jameis” and a life that is constantly making headlines, you would think that everyone in the sports world could spell out Jameis Winston’s monicker in their sleep.
But it looks like someone at the World Wide Leader In Sports was a little snoozy on the job when the NFL prospect’s name popped up misspelled in a banner during a broadcast.
Sports media editor and personality @Kimmiexj posted a screenshot to Twitter of the misstake. Even better was that it is part of a segment about Winston’s rising stock in the days leading up to the NFL Draft.
Sure, we all let our fingers fly across our keyboards and make a typo or two. And yes, even big wigs like ESPN aren’t immune to those days when you can’t spell anything right the first time through if you tried. But this is one that will have the boys in Bristol kicking themselves.
In journalism school, you flunked a paper if it had a name misspelled in it, no excuses. While this probably won’t cost anyone their job, there will surely be some workplace and social media hazing that will ensue over the next day or two.
Watch out, Marcus Mariota–you’re name is next.
