Early Week 1 point spreads released

The fine folks in Las Vegas — specifically sportsbook 5dimes — have released some of the early point spreads for Week 1 of the 2015 college football season.

As you would expect, juggernauts like the defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes and Nick Saban’s Alabama Crimson Tide are heavily favored entering the opening weekend.

Ohio State is favored by more than 20 points, while Alabama, Auburn, Notre Dame, TCU and UCLA are all favored by more than 12.

Here are some of the top spreads, via College Football Talk:

Ohio State – 20.5 @ Virginia Tech
TCU – 19.5 @ Minnesota
UCLA – 16 @ Virginia
Alabama – 12.5 vs. Wisconsin (Arlington, Texas)
Auburn – 12.5 vs. Louisville (Atlanta, Ga.)
Notre Dame -12.5 vs. Texas
South Carolina – 7.5 vs. North Carolina
Texas A&M – 5.5 vs. Arizona State
Utah – 3.5 vs. Michigan

Of course, a lot of things can change before the start of the new season, but the early point spreads are a good indicator of how some of the teams expect to get the season rolling.

For some of the top contenders for the College Football Playoff, the early wins are as important as it gets.
