Penn State Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin is going to take his talents to another sport. In a statement released by the university, it was announced that Franklin will be throwing out the first pitch at an upcoming New York Yankees game.
“It’s such an awesome opportunity to throw out the first pitch and take in a Yankees game at such an iconic stadium,” Franklin said in a statement.
“The Yankees’ staff was great to work with and hosted a first-class event in the Pinstripe Bowl. The experience our student-athletes, coaches and staff had at Yankee Stadium in December was second to none. I am looking forward to taking the mound, maybe I will try to get some pitching advice from Masahiro Tanaka or Michael Pineda.”
Franklin’s first pitch will come on Tuesday prior to the Yankees-Tampa Bay Rays game.
While the first pitch will be a unique experience for Franklin, it will not be the first time he has made the trip to Yankees Stadium. In December, Franklin and the Nittany Lions took on Boston College at the Pinstripe Bowl.
Hopefully Franklin’s first pitch will be as successful as Penn State’s last trip to New York.
