Rutgers joined the Big Ten last year and went on to finish dead last with a 2-16 conference record (although they did beat Wisconsin). Eddie Jordan has to continue to find talent and that’s exactly what he did on Monday morning.
JUCO small forward/power forward transfer Deshawn Freeman has officially decided to play for Jordan and his Scarlet Knights.
At Hutchinson Community College (2014), Freeman averaged 16.4 points per game and grabbed 6.1 rebounds.
The 6’7″ forward had interest from Arizona State (in addition to Rutgers) and before joining Hutchinson CC, he received interest from VCU, High Point, Georgia Southern, among others.
Freeman has a knack for finding the basketball, is a relentless rebounder and has the ability to attack the hoop off the bounce. He doesn’t have experience at the Division I level but Rutgers’ will set him up with match-ups against high-quality opponents right away, which may boost his confidence for the later part of the season.
With Junior Etou moving onto Tulsa, Rutgers needed to add more depth to their wing positions as well as their front court. Freeman is a solid addition and should provide quality minutes off the Knights bench.
