Recruitment for Former VCU Signee Tevin Mack Heating Up

Now that Shaka Smart left VCU for burnt ends and burnt orange ties at Texas, his former four star recruit Tevin Mack is attracting attention from many top schools. The Columbia, SC native was released from his letter of intent by VCU earlier this month.

Mack is said to have Kansas, Georgia and Texas actively trying to bring the 6-foot-6, 200-pound SF to campus. They all have taken a similar route in hopes of landing the Top-50 recruit — they talked to his mom.

Phil Kornblut of goupstate.com reported that Mack’s mother, Paula, spoke to all three head coaches this week.

“They were all telling me how much they can use him and how much they need him,” Ms. Mack said. “They all want him. All three said how bad they needed him, especially Kansas. He (Self) said he needed a big scoring guard.”

Right now, where Mack will land is up in the air. Wherever it is, he will be a solid addition to any team this late in the recruiting process. As Kornblut reported, Self and the Jayhawks could really use him. Right now Kansas has landed just one recruit for the upcoming season — Top-25 PF, Carlton Bragg.

As you can see in the highlights below, Mack could add depth and scoring to any squad at the wing position. In addition, if Smart recruited him, his commitment to defense has to be high.
