With the ink all but dry on Billy Donovan’s contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder, University of Florida A.D. Jeremy Foley is now left with the task of replacing one of college basketball’s elite coaches.
Campus Sports has compiled a list of the most likely names to replace Donovan at UF.
Gregg Marshall, Wichita State- Marshall’s name needs to be on the list since there is a job opening in college basketball. He has led the Shockers to 30 wins for three consecutive seasons, including a Final Four in 2013 and a 35-1 season in 2013-14. With a budget and facilities like Florida it would be fun to see what Marshall could do.
Archie Miller, Dayton- After taking Dayton to the Elite Eight and round of 32 in consecutive season at Dayton, Miller is one of the hottest candidates in the country right now. Success in an underrated A-10 conference is nothing to scoff at, and Miller should be at the very top of Foley’s list.
Ben Jacobson, Northern Iowa- Coming off his most successful season (31-4) while at Northern Iowa, Jacobson’s stock is probably as high as it has ever been. He’s made the tournament six (6) times during his tenure at Northern Iowa and seems like the unusual fit that just might work in Gainesville.
John Pelphrey, UF (Assistant)- Presumably Foley is in love with Donovan’s style of coaching. Thus who better to hire than a man who has coached under Donovan twice, has head coaching experience in the SEC (Arkansas 2007-2011) and who played in the SEC himself under Rick Pitino at Kentucky?
