Instagram Launches New Music Channel

Earlier today, Instagram officially announced the launch of their new music channel, @music. Instagram plans for @music to offer followers a unique insight into the world of music.

Capturing artists’ day-to-day, practice sessions, concerts, and fans, this channel will provide a wide variety of artist content.

CEO and founder, Kevin Systron explains, “For the past four years, we have become the home for artists big and small – a place where people across the musical spectrum come to share stories, reveal their creativity and connect directly with fans.”

Instagram, owned by Facebook, will mainly feature artists, but will also provide followers an insight into concert photographers, album illustrators, and instrument makers to offer an assortment of music related content.

While popular artists will likely catch the majority of attention, @music plans to emphasize undiscovered and emerging talent in order to help catapult their success.

While this is huge news to social media lovers and music fanatics alike, it is unknown how Instagram plans to monetize this channel. My best guess is through exclusive content and artists deals.
