Shaun Kirk Spurns Kentucky, Sticks with N.C. State

Despite a late offer from John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats, three-star recruit Shaun Kirk has gone with his gut and signed a letter of intent to join Mark Gottfried and the North Carolina State Wolfpack. Kirk’s high school’s Twitter page broke the story.

The move is a coup for N.C. State, as Kentucky has become famous for landing the best recruits and competing for a national title year after year. This time, Kirk will join an ACC team that went 22-14 (10-8 ACC) last season and upset No. 1 Villanova en route to a trip to the Sweet Sixteen, where Louisville defeated them. With leading scorer Trevor Lacey having declared for the draft, Kirk could be in a position to pick up significant minutes and play a key role as a freshman.

Kirk is a 6’7″, 185 pound small forward from Whiteville, North Carolina. On top of N.C. State and Kentucky, he had been considering Auburn, California, Baylor and Virginia Commonwealth.
