Joe Cardona becomes first Navy player drafted since 1995

There are always great and unexpected stories during the NFL Draft and this year was no different.

During the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft in Chicago, the New England Patriots selected Joe Cardona of the Naval Academy. It was a monumental moment for a number of reasons.

First of all, Cardona becomes the first Navy player drafted since former Navy tight end Kevin Hickman was drafted in the sixth round of the 1995 draft by the Detroit Lions. He is the first Navy graduate to be drafted since 1993.

Another reason this pick is noteworthy is the fact that Cardona is a long snapper. Yes, a long snapper was drafted.

Congratulations to the young man.
