Wisconsin Badgers head coach Bo Ryan participated in the Wisconsin Coaches vs. Cancer gala over the weekend. It’s safe to say that the event was a great success, with a whopping $1,191,567 raised for cancer research.
“The first year (we raised) $67,000 and we thought, boy, that was a great night,” Ryan said, via the Wisconsin State Journal. “And a lot of that money came from people paying to see me do the hambone. Now, this is how far we’ve come. We’re going to set the tone again for the country.”
Amy Rohrer, the local event organizer, praised Ryan for his role in the event.
“Coach Ryan just puts so much effort and enthusiasm into it every day of his life,” Rohrer said. “This is a big deal for him. It’s not for show. He loves it. This is a big part of his heart, and he’s convinced that cancer can be cured right here in our backyard.”
It’s always great to see these events being a success, so kudos to Coach Ryan and everyone who was involved.
