It’s that time of year again. This morning, Forbes revealed the top 5 wealthiest hip-hop artists of 2015. In an industry filled with money-centric lyrics, these artists are some of the few who can actually back up their claims – with lots of wiggle room to spare.
So, without further ado, here’s the list:
- Diddy – $735 Million
- Dr. Dre – $700 Million
- Jay Z – $550 Million
- 50 Cent – $155 Million
- Birdman – $150 Million
Last year, this list comprised the same individuals as this year. However, this time around, 50 Cent jumped Birdman to claim his #4 spot by a “miniscule” $5 million. With rumors swirling of Lil Wayne leaving Cash Money Records, Birdman saw a slight decrease in his net worth from the year previous.
Last May, when Dr. Dre sold his Beats headphone company to Apple for $3 billion, he proclaimed himself “the first billionaire in hip-hop.” Well hold your horses, Dre – company politics and taxes reign supreme.
While I doubt Dre is complaining about his $700 Million net worth, Diddy still remains on top. Informative as this list may be, the real question is who will prevail as hip-hop’s first billionaire?
My mix-tape drops this summer – game on boys.
