Kentucky Suspends Leading Scorer Makayla Epps

Kentucky’s women’s basketball team has suspended leading scorer Makayla Epps, per a report from Mrs. Tyler Thompson of Kentucky Sports Radio. Epps, 19, recently pleaded not guilty to possession of alcohol by a minor and having an open container in a motor vehicle.

Wildcats women’s head coach Matthew Mitchell confirmed that Epps will be banned from all team activities and will not be allowed back until she has met goals set by both Mitchell and the team. On top of that, there will likely be a one-game suspension.

Epps averaged 14.3 points per game at Kentucky this past season and helped lead the team to a 24-10 (10-6 SEC) overall record. The Wildcats earned a trip to the NCAA tournament, but were upset by the Dayton Flyers in the Round of 32, 99-94. In defeat, Epps led the way with 29 points.

Hopefully, this talented young woman gets her head screwed on straight and steps back on the hardwood soon, as she is far too talented to just be ignored after one mistake.
