UPDATE: Butler has been dismissed

Following the news of running back Steward Butler being arrested and charged in the alleged battery of a gay couple, the Marshall Thundering Herd have handed down some punishment.

Butler has been indefinitely suspended from the team.

“We are aware of the situation … and are currently in the process of gathering all available information,” Marshall athletics spokesman Jason Corriher wrote in a release. “We will handle the matter internally and appropriately.”

Butler turned himself in on Wednesday morning, before being released on a $10,000, personal recognizance bond.

According to the reports, Butler walked by two homosexual men kissingat 5th Avenue and 9th Street in Huntington. After seeing the kiss, Butler allegedly approached the men yelling obscene comments about their sexuality, before striking them.

If the reports prove to be true, Butler should be dismissed from the team.

As Huntington Police Detective Chris Sperry said, every human being should be able to live their life without that type of violence.
