Mayweather-Pacquiao gets record 4.4 million PPV buys

The pay-per-view numbers from the highly-anticipated Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao fight have been released and they are just as enormous as everyone would have anticipated.

According to a press release, the fight generated a record 4.4 million buys.

“Initial reports from distributors indicate that the event generated more than 4.4 million U.S. buys and more than $400 million in domestic pay-per-view revenue alone,” the press release said.

“With additional revenue from the live gate at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, international television distribution, sponsorships, closed circuit and merchandise sales, the event is expected to generate in excess of $500 million in gross worldwide receipts.”

While the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight may not have lived up to the fight in the ring, the excitement that it generated and the money leads to the show being an overwhelming success.
