Former UNC coach Bill Guthridge dies at 77

The North Carolina Tar Heels family has suffered a loss. On Wednesday morning, news surfaced that former head basketball coach Bill Gurhridge has passed away at the age of 77.

North Carolina’s basketball account paid tribute to Guthridge on social media immediately as the news broke.

Guthridge was a top assistant for Dean Smith for thirty years, before taking over as head coach for three years beginning with the 1997-98 season.

During his three years leading the Tar Heels, Guthridge reached the Final Four two times.
