Duke standouts players Tyus Jones and Justise Winslow are about to join the growing list of “one-and-done” players, but to think that they didn’t enjoy their lone season in school with the Blue Devils is far from the truth. These two future first-round picks are featured in “Reflections” videos made by the team, and what they have to say is truly soul-baring.
Both players are incredibly humble, speaking nothing but genuine praise for the university. Winslow even mentions how making the decision to enter the draft after a championship season was “tough” and also has nothing but good things to say about his relationship with Hall of Fame coach Mike Krzyzewski.
The long and short of it is that for any Blue Devils fans who are bummed that Jones and Winslow won’t be back with the team next year, these videos are a surefire way to feel better. Once the reasons for going pro are understood, the sting hurts a lot less.
Moreover, this should be something that ALL programs do with departing players as a type of community outreach, since there’s no such thing as too much good PR.
