Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year Tayler Persons will leave Northern Kentucky and transfer to Ball State. Persons made the announcement on his personal Twitter page.
I am very excited to announce that I will continue my academic and basketball career at Ball State University! #chirpchirp

The 6’3″, 230 pound Persons averaged 13.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game in his sole season for the Norse. The team went 13-17 (7-7 A-Sun) and finished fifth in the conference.
He will now join a Ball State team that, well, has seen better days. The Cardinals went 7-23 (2-16 MAC) and finished dead last in the MAC West in 2015, its second season under coach James Whitford. The team has not been to the NCAA Tournament since 2000, and won’t even be able to enjoy Persons’ talent for another year because of NCAA transfer rules.
Persons thus becomes a key member of the 2016 recruiting class as key Cardinals players like Jeremiah Davis III and JUCO transfer Naiel Smith are both upperclassmen, so the timing of this oddly works out for Ball State.
Persons had also drawn interest from Xavier and Purdue before selecting Ball State.
