Pitt’s James Conner expected to go pro after next season

The Pittsburgh Panthers could be playing in their last season with James Conner as the starting running back. According to reports, the 6-foot-2, 250-pounder is expected to declare for the NFL Draft next year because of the “pounding his body has already taken.”

Fox Sports’ Lauren Brownlow passed along the news, saying Conner  will “likely leave school as long as his stock is high enough after next year”

Last season, Conner rushed for 1,765 yards and 26 touchdowns.

“This past draft showed that teams aren’t afraid to take running backs high, but you never know how trends will change,” Brownlow wrote. “Conner is strong, powerful and fast, an ideal combination for any back.”

Conner is the reigning ACC Player of the Year, so there will be plenty of attention on him in 2015.
