LSU Opposing Thanksgiving Day Game Against Aggies

“As long as I’m here, we will not play in Tiger Stadium on a Thursday.”

These words are the very strong ones of LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva when he spoke with the Baton Rouge Advocate, according to College Football Talk. The words were brought on after Alleva was asked about the LSU Tigers hosting the Texas A&M Aggies on Thanksgiving Day this season, just one season after the Aggies hosted the Tigers on the same day.

Alleva guaranteed that no game would be played at Tiger Stadium on a Thursday. So, as it would seem, the Aggies are going to have to look elsewhere for a Turkey Day game. There really is no need for the game as the Tigers have never held a game in Tiger Stadium before Friday afternoon. Why break tradition now?

Another tradition that was broken just four years ago was the Texas/Texas A&M rivalry. The rivalry ended after the latter moved from the Big 12 to the SEC. Ever since then, fans of the two teams have been clamoring for a renewal of the rivalry. Coincidentally, the game was typically played on Thanksgiving Day. The pieces seem to fall perfectly into place.
