Darell Garretson to walk-on at Oregon State

The Oregon State Beavers are going to have another man in the mix to replace quarterback Sean Mannion, but that will not come until 2016.

Thanks to NCAA transfer rules, former Utah State Aggies quarterback Darell Garretson will be forced out the upcoming season before having two years of eligibility remaining.

Garretson will be joining Oregon State as a walk-on.

Utah State blocked a potential transfer to the Washington Huskies because they appear on the upcoming season schedule — even though Garretson will be ineligible to play — but he still found his way to the Pac-12.

“It doesn’t matter [that I am walking on],” Garretson told the Beavers to The Oregonian. “I like the place too much. I actually went there on an unofficial (visit) going into my senior year of high school, and I really liked it then. I don’t think it’s changed too much.”

At Oregon State, Garretson will be reunited with former Utah State offensive coordinator Kevin McGivens, who now coaches the Beavers quarterbacks.

Last season, Garretson threw for 1,140 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions before a wrist injury ended his season prematurely.
