In what has been the biggest piece of news in the college football world this week, Everett Golson announced in an unsurprising move that he would be transferring to Florida State for the 2015 season. Reports immediately came rolling in that head coach Jimbo Fisher had given Golson the starting position before he made his decision.
According to College Spun and Brett McMurphy, those reports are false.
Jimbo Fisher said last week he didn't promise Golson he's starter: “It’s a competition no matter what. Let him earn his way thru it"

Before the decision became final, junior Seminole Sean Maguire, who was Jameis Winston’s backup and has a 1-0 career record for Florida State, was slated to be the starter going into the fall. Now that Golson has transferred and will be eligible for the 2015 season thanks to the graduate exception, the competition for Maguire has become a lot stiffer.
The Seminoles open their season at home against Texas State on September 5 and they will look to get back into the College Football Playoff picture. Who will be leading their team into battle? Will it be the battle-tested Golson who knows exactly what the ACC is about or will it be Maguire, the guy who has waited patiently for his turn under the tutelage of the number one pick in the 2015 NFL draft? We will just have to wait for September.
