It hasn’t taken much time for Auburn Tigers defensive coordinator Will Muschamp to make a big impression on the team. After spring practice, it was clear that his initial impact was an added level of toughness to the Tigers’ defensive unit.
Auburn had a physical spring in order to get the team ahead of the curve, and that is something head coach Gus Malzahn was 100 percent behind.
“Will thought that was very important, which I do, too,” Malzahn said, via Al.com.
“It’s probably at the top. The very first year we got back (2013) and this year were very similar as far as the physicality — and that we went live legally when we could so our guys could get our edge back and so we could tackle.”
Auburn is currently one of the favorites to reach the College Football Playoff this season.
If Muschamp can get the defense on the level of the dynamic offense the Tigers have, then Auburn could find themselves living up to those expectations.
