NIU Hosts Contest to Let Fans Choose Field Design

How would you like the chance to help choose the field design of a Division 1 college football team? Well, Northern Illinois University is doing just that for the 2015 season.

According to College Football Talk, the NIU football program is giving their fans the chance to help design the field by giving fans a number of options for them to choose from. Now, NIU won’t be going to the extremes of those schools like Boise State and Eastern Washington and painting their field entirely black, but they do have some pretty cool designs in mind.

While the field of corn may look interesting, it almost feels like a rip off of Oregon’s home basketball court. The giant silhouette of Illinois at midfield seems like a bit much as well.

The Husky at midfield option is the frontrunner right now, but it does seem a little bland if you’re going to let the fans choose. Again, the silhouette is a little much. Any fan of the Huskies knows that they are in Illinois.

The last two options are my personal favorites. I love the big Husky that has been faded onto the field itself and the alternating light green/dark green lines excites my inner-interior designer. Whatever the fans decide, I’m sure it won’t affect he play of the Huskies come September. They are still going to be the powerhouse of the MAC that they have been for the last five seasons.
