Kevin Ollie and the UConn Huskies failed to make the NCAA Tournament last season, but they have already made a few critical splashes this offseason.
In addition to adding Sterling Gibbs and Shonn Miller as graduate transfers (to help for this upcoming season), the program has also landed a commitment to help build their roster in 2016-17.
6’8″ power forward Mamadou Diarra, who attended Putnam Sciences Academy, chose to remain in the Northeast, choosing the Huskies over the VCU Rams.
Diarra is still raw but he has a fantastic knack for finding rebounds and blocking shots on the defensive end. He is also a very good finisher around the rim and will be a great interior option alongside center Amida Brimah and Kentan Facey.
Ollie is also in the mix for VCU transfer Terry Larrier, so the Huskies may have success not just this upcoming season, but for the future years to come.
