Bill Self wins Hall of Fame’s humanitarian award

Kansas Jayhawks head coach Bill Self has earned a new piece of hardware for his trophy case.

This week, Self was named a recipient of the Basketball Hall of Fame’s Mannie Jackson Human Spirit award. Self’s work with the Assists Foundation — which raises money for programs like Kansas Action for Healthy Kids, Boys and Girls Clubs of Lawrence, Kansas Youth Empowerment Academy, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northeast Kansasand more — is what earned him the award.

“It is an honor for us to recognize these three outstanding men for their humanitarian efforts,” John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame.

“The Mannie Jackson – Basketball’s Human Spirit Award is a prestigious honor awarded only to those with this highest level of dedication to making the world a better place – each of these recipients is tremendously worthy.”
