Notre Dame Cornerback to Return for 2015 Season

The Notre Damn Fighting Irish and its secondary just got a little bit stronger. The team missed a key piece of their defense last season and in the fall, they will get it back. KeiVarae Russell announced on his Instagram that he would be returning to the team for the 2015 season.

According to CBS Sports, Russell sat out the 2014 season due to being under academic investigation. The investigation stemmed from what Notre Dame called “potential academic dishonesty” and it led to the suspension of five Fighting Irish players for last season, including Russell.

Russell was a 2012 freshman All-American and was considered the team’s top cornerback before the suspension. Russell will have to battle back to get back to his form and hopefully put his name back in the heads of NFL scouts.

Head coach Brian Kelly told the media in February that Russell had been taking classes elsewhere to hopefully return to the school. The hard work has paid off for the young man and Irish fans will see him in navy and gold come September.
