West Virginia Mountaineers running back/wide receiver Wendell Smallwood is one of the top players to watch heading into the upcoming college football season.
According to CBS Sports’ Dane Brugler, Wendell “is simply a playmaker that grabs your eye.”
Despite sharing a backfield with Rushel Shell, Donte Thomas-Williams and Jacky Marcellus, Smallwood is a player who has the capability to make his impact felt on the scouts.
“Smallwood has somewhat of a tweener frame, lacking the ideal build of a running back or the height or strength of a receiver, but he uses his athletic gifts to be a home run threat any time he touches the ball. He has terrific speed and acceleration to erase defender angles and although he lacks an ideal identity as a pro prospect, Smallwood is simply a playmaker that grabs your eye,” Brugler wrote.
It will be difficult for Smallwood to emerge as the go-to back in Morgantown with such a crowded backfield, but he will remain a huge part of the team and he could eventually dddb
