Rutgers Lands Three-Star Linebacker Elias Reynolds

Starting in 2016, Rutgers’ defense is going to be a lot stronger. In a tweet from Rutgers 247, it was reported that three-star linebacker Elias Reynolds has committed to the Scarlet Knights.

A 6-foot-3, 225 pounder out of Brooklyn’s Poly Prep Country Day School, Reynolds had also received offers from a myriad number of schools including Buffalo, UConn, Maryland, Pittsburgh and many others. His 40-time is a bit slow at 5.06 seconds, but that can be improved with coaching and some time in the gym.

Reynolds can also help the team’s defense improve, as the Scarlet Knights ranked 96th in total defense last year and gave up 30.2 points per game while only scoring 26.7 themselves. He hasn’t gone into detail about why he chose to take his talents to New Brunswick, but 247 Sports is set to sit down with him and discuss it tonight.

Rutgers went 8-5 (3-5 Big Ten) last season, its first in the Big Ten, and defeated North Carolina in the Quick Lane Bowl. The team opens the 2015 season at home against Norfolk State on September 5.
